Ghandi is home & Wesha came into season

I have so much to tell, but I am so tired... So for now, I will tell you a short version. We picked up Ghandi at the airport in Cologne (Germany) last night. We stayed the night in a hotel and that was a long night, with very little sleep. Wesha wanted to play, Ghandi was stressed and didn't want to play. (He wanted to sit on my lap and get lots of TLC.) When we put them each in a transport box, there was a lot of whimpering and surprisingly, Ghandi was the first one to be quiet. Around 3am, Ghandi started crying and I went out with him. He was so scared, that I didn't have the heart to put him back in the transport box again. So we let Wesha out of her transport box too. That resulted in a lot of jumping on and off beds, walking over beds, crawling under beds etc. And very little sleep. Finally, Ghandi was the first one to fall asleep. On the bed, at my feet. Wesha couldn't find her peace yet and kept tigering around. Until she finally gave up too and fell asleep on the bed too, at Reto's feet. Then it was quiet until 07.45am.

Wesha left a little surprise on Reto's bed... a drop of blood! She had come into season during the night! She didn't seem unhappy or less active.

After walking the dogs and breakfast, we drove back home. The drive went very well. No whimpering at all.

At home, Ghandi seemed to feel better at ease soon. After sniffing around in our house and garden, he even started to play with toys and later he even played with Wesha.

I was worried, because Ghandi didn't pee or poo since we picked him up at the airport, but a friend told me this could be due to stress and I should worry too much. He finally did both this evening.

Wesha found a tennis ball when we went for a walk in Cologne.

Arrival of Ghandi at the airport. The big black dog had drooled all over Ghandi.

Late at night:

Early in the morning:

Enjoying themselves in the garden when we got home

Really playing for the first time:

Wesha got tired off all the running and playing:

Ghandi was still fit

I had to give Ghandi a bath, because he sure didn't smell like roses! It was a bit of a water ballet in the bathroom, as you can see from my shirt.

During our first walk in Dachsen

Finally tired enough to sleep

Picking up our Easter Bunny!

With regard to Ghandi, it was a week of ups and downs. On Monday, I got an email saying that the transport of Ghandi was delayed by at least a week. It might also be longer, as the Spanish authorities didn't give the animal rescue organisation the permit they need to transport the dogs in the re-build bus. I was of course extremely disappointed.

However, today I got an email saying that Ghandi will now fly to Germany. He will arrive in Cologne on Saturday evening! I am extremely excited and happy! We will make a little weekend trip, as Cologne is a 5hrs drive from here (without breaks) and Ghandi will arrive late in the evening. I immediately booked a hotel near the airport, where we are allowed to sleep in one (hopefully big) room with 2 adults, 2 kids AND 2 dogs!

So now I am telling all my friends, that we are picking up our Easter Bunny on Saturday! Hahahaha!

I will have to change the name of this blog. And upload a nice photo of Ghandi.

Wesha news

I am a bit behind in reporting about Wesha's life. Last Sunday we had a long walk with my friend Barbara and her mixed breed Lenny. It was our first long walk together. As long as the dogs were on the leash, it was difficult, because Wesha still cannot walk normally when there is another dog around. All she wants to do is play, play, PLAY!

Good thing we choose a walk where we could let the dogs go off leash soon. In the beginning, they played a lot. After a while, Lenny was getting a bit tired and he started just walking. He likes walking up front, but Wesha likes that too... so they had many little struggles. All very friendly though. Wesha onces rolled off a hill with old leafs, that was after she had been in the water... so she was incredibly filthy. Totally dark brown. And loving every moment of it. Me too.

I will post photos soon.

On Tuesday, we had a walk with Cordula and Nituna. Nituna is the other Toller that lives in our village. We hadn't seen each other for a while and Nituna had grown a lot. She is really beautiful. Nituna and Wesha were playing and running and running and playing! Wonderful to see a perfect match for Wesha's needs.

When we went down to the Rhine, Nituna went for a real swim for the first time! It was so great to see her just paddle off... Wesha wouldn't go in any deeper and was just looking at her. A bit puzzled it seemed. As soon as Nituna was back on dry land, Wesha immediately started to play with her again. They had a really good time and Wesha had a LONG sleep when we came back home!

Wesha & the horses

First a lazy pic from yesterday. Wesha was on the (tiled) kitchen floor, like when she was a puppy:

On Saturdays, our daughter Tina goes horseback riding. I always bring her and while she is riding, I go for a walk with Wesha. Today, we met the class while we were on our way back to the stables. It was the first time that Wesha walked free in between the horses.
Wesha greeting Andrea (my sister in law and owner of the stables):

Hey, Tina on a horse!

After the horses had been drinking at this well, Wesha did the same. She hung her front paws in the water, that was so cute!

Wesha was fascinated by Tondo's tongue. Tondo had to have his front teeth pulled years ago, so his tongue is always sticking out. Wesha managed to lick it once.

Wonderful Walk & untaped ear

This morning, I untaped Wesha's ear and so far, it has stayed in the right position. It usually folds wrong when she is sleeping, so we'll have to wait and see how long it stays like this. If necessary, I'll tape it again.

Just returned from a wonderful walk with Wesha. We walked with two women who each also have a dog (a Border Collie and a Magyar Vizsla). We have met them several times before and Wesha enjoys playing and running with the other dogs. In between, I call her back to me every now and then and let her "sit" and sometimes "wait" or put her in "down". And Wesha does it so wonderfully. It makes me proud. When we split up, I called Wesha and let her walk right next to me ("heel"?). That also worked perfectly. It is a huge pleasure to go on walks with a dog that listens so well!

Easter Egg

We are getting a very special Easter Egg this year... We are picking up Ghandi on the 10th of April!
