Dummy training - fun again!

I had another dummy training today with Wesha and she did so well! I am so happy because only a few weeks ago, it wasn't going so well at all. Wesha was losing interest, I was getting frustrated. And we both didn't have fun anymore. Wesha liked playing, but as soon as she got the feeling she had to "work", she didn't like it anymore.

What helped us getting back on track?
- lots of help and ideas from our trainer: Jolanda. Thank you!
- we did a lot of playing during one of the trainings, without asking much of Wesha. That brought back the fun for both of us.
- I bought a new toy (small, soft, disk-shaped, fake fur thing), that I didn't give Wesha to play with. I do take it in my hands often, play a bit with it alone and make it interesting for her. She never gets to play with this toy at home, only during dummy training
- we started to hide the dummy/toy and Wesha loves searching

The fun came back for both of us and suddenly Wesha seems to "get it" too. I am very happy and also very proud of Wesha.

Snow (no) fun

We have a good amount of snow since 2 days. But unfortunately, Wesha is having a lot of problems with snow/ice between the balls of her feet. Even a few minutes in the garden is too much. I will have another try at cutting the hair under her feet and rubbing vaseline on her feet before we go out for another walk.

New harnesses

I have bought new harnesses for Wesha and Ghandi. I took them to the "Hundenshop 4Pfoten" in Schaffhausen. First I took Wesha into the shop with me. She loves going there. Food smells everywhere and Marion, the owner, is very nice and Wesha knows that she will get some goodies (think: food) from her. Plus that she can greet Felia and Shakira, Marion's dogs, who are always in the shop.
So in between running around, we fit various types of harnesses on Wesha. In the end, I had to order one, because the one I wanted wasn't a perfect fit.

I changed dogs, and went back into the shop with Ghandi. He was also very excited. He wasn't too interested in Felia and Shakira. But the huge bags of dog food were attracting him. I could just see the street dog in him. He climbed up on some bags and started chewing a corner of one of them! At least he came whenever I called him. In between him running around, he also had to fit on various harnesses. Both his old ones were too small (too close to his elbows), so I bought Ghandi 2 new ones.

(I ordered the same model, but different colours for Wesha)

I like this one best:

World Famous! (in Germany)

This must be Wesha's 15 minutes of fame... The above photo got published in the best dog magazine in Germany "DOGS"! It is in the January/Februar 2010 issue, on the (last) page: "Happy Dogs". (The small one, on the right hand bottom)

The photo is from last year February in Davos. Wesha's eyes are now amber, they no longer have this blue/green in them.

I am happy and a bit proud.

No more pictures

Yes, that is right. No more pictures... We can thank Ghandi for that.

Since we returned from Davos, we let Ghandi sleep "free" again (no longer in the bench) in the living room. He had been behaving so well in Davos. But that might have been because we sleep in the same room there. Anyway... yesterday morning, when Reto got downstairs, Ghandi was acting guilty. And after greeting Reto, he went back to the dog stretcher and while looking at Reto and wagging his tail, he chewed on my compact camera! He had obviously stolen it from the dinner table during the night. BAD Ghandi!!

He had broken the display and at first I thought that the camera was still working, but unfortunately it wasn't. I could turn it on, but then there was nothing I could do apart from turning it off again. I was really mad because I loved that little camera and I almost always had it with me. It was a really good camera that took great pics. (I have a DSLR too, but that is too big to always carry around.)

I still don't want to put Ghandi back into the bench at night. Because then we have 2 unhappy dogs: Ghandi because he has to sleep IN the bench, and Wesha because she has to sleep elsewhere. LOL! So every evening, I take more care to put things higher up so that Ghandi cannot reach them.

And for my birthday (in February), I know what Reto & the kids could give me! (And until then, I might post the occasional picture taken with the DSLR.)

A week in Davos

We were in Davos from the 25th of December 2009 until the 2nd of January 2010. Wesha and Ghandi love it in Davos. Both for their own reasons. Wesha loves that she can retreat into the bedroom when she wants her peace. Ghandi loves that he can be with us 24/7. Wesha loves that there are so many other dogs to play with. Ghandi loves that he is allowed onto the sofa. They both love the snow and running after snow balls. I was a bit afraid, that it would be too cold for Ghandi, but I have only seen him shiver once.

Ghandi enjoyed the cushions on the sofa a lot

Wesha's fav spot in the bedroom: she has her peace there and when someone goes away or comes home, she can see them through the window.

Wesha did have some problems with the snow sticking to her paws. I cut the hair underneath her paws (oh, it sounds so easy when I write this... LOL!) and sometimes put a layer of vaseline on them. That did help. Luckily, Ghandi didn't have that problem.

There was a lot more fireworks on New Year's Eve than in previous years. Wesha and Ghandi were totally relaxed about it and slept through almost all of it. I had an extra bone ready for them, but since they were sleeping so sweetly, they didn't get it. If only they knew...

We went out for lunch with the dogs once. It was very crowded in the restaurant, but we got a table against the wall, so that Wesha and Ghandi had a calm spot under our table. They both behaved impeccably. Wesha hardly ever moved and Ghandi, although he was sitting most of the time, was quiet too.

Snow fun

A couple of days ago, we had the first snow. When I let Ghandi in the garden, he didn't seem to like it very much at first. But soon he was playing with Wesha (I have a video that for some unknown reason I can't get on YouTube).

Last night, we got "real" snow... a lot more too! So this morning, I took lots of pics during our walk. Both Wesha and Ghandi were sniffing a lot, burrying their faces in the snow. They hardly had time to play.
