More photos and a funny video

Ghandi enjoys playing with a ball that Reto & Lorenzo found in the forest today. He totally ignores Wesha. And then she even got in the way! Look what happened! :D

Some more photos from yesterday's photo shoot:

Lorenzo saw this and took the photo!

So sweet together...

Posing again today

I wanted a photo of both of them on this bench. Wesha was no problem...

But Ghandi first didn't want to go on the bench, and when he was finally there... he got off it too soon!

But in the end I managed!

Birthday Girl

Wesha is 1 year old today!

To celebrate, she got a treat and a photo session (not sure whether she like that last one). Reto came with us on our afternoon walk, so that I could concentrate on taking photos while he kept an eye on Wesha, Ghandi and our surroundings. We took off her harness, so that you can enjoy Wesha at her best. I am not sure what a juror on a show would say, but to us she is a BEAUTIFUL Toller!

YAWN...Posing is boring!

On Monday, Wesha and I met up with Cordula and Nituna. It was a very hot day, so we went to the forest to walk in the shade. In order not to disturb young bambi and its mother, the dogs have be on the leash in the forest until mid June. But where we parked our cars, we could let Nituna and Wesha run free for a while. Just when we went into the forest, we came to this spring/well. Wesha and Nituna used it to cool down from playing.

Nituna is such a beautiful Toller! Beautiful colour and lovely smooth coat.

With Ghandi, I have started a course in order to get the "Sachkundenachweis". In Switzerland, anyone who has gotten a dog after 1 September 2008, needs to do this course. If you already have a dog, you don't have to do the theory part. The course is only 5 hours and in it, you should learn how to safely lead your dog in day to day situations and how to train the dog.
Ghandi is doing really well during the training hours. His attention span has improved and he is a quick learner. He is just a little bit more stubborn than Wesha. If he doesn't see a reason to do "sit", he will just refuse and stand. And that reason is usually a reward that I have in my hand, LOL!

Ghandi has now stopped shedding and his coat is beautiful. It shines brilliantly. Now Wesha has started shedding. It isn't so bad yet, her tail and her "pants" are still full. But when I stroke her from head to tail and close my hand at the end, there is a lot of hair in my hand.

We met two friends of Wesha and Ghandi this morning: Joya and Thaila. I wanted to take some pics, but I only managed once to get them all 4 in one picture, as Thaila, the Border Collie, usually walks a bit further up front.

Playing fields

Wesha and Ghandi have been enjoying the tall grass and flowers on the fields nearby. They love playing in the fields and they also eat the fresh green stuff. Sometimes they totally disappear from view. But Ghandi doesn't like it when he cannot see me, so he usually runs back to check if I am still there.

This is a clip from last week:

Time Flies

Ghandi has been with us for a month now. Incredible, because it feels as if he has been with us forever. Adding him to our family has gone so smoothly. Wesha accepted him quickly and I do believe that her life improved when Ghandi came into our lives. They play together a lot, they run together a lot, they sleep together every now and then.

Ghandi does well at training. He is very clever and he learns quickly. He can do "sit" and "wait" (not too long, of course) and "heel". His attention span is still short, so we will have to work on that.

At home, Ghandi is demanding attention all the time. His idea of heaven is sleeping on someone's lap. We have to be very strict in order not to let him get his way all the time. It is hard sometimes, because he is so cute and sweet. We all love having him on our lap. In the evenings, when the children have gone to bed, he does sleep in/on a dog bed alone. But as soon as one of us sits on the floor or in the black chair, he will move to our lap.

Ghandi eats well (everything we offer him), sleeps well (nights in the crate, without any problems after the first few days) and everybody just loves him to bits. He has something special, that makes an impression on everybody he meets. People just love him.

When we go for walks, Ghandi can get jealous when Wesha is showing interest in another dog. He then has to let the other dog know, that Wesha is HIS friend. (think: bark, bark, bark!) But he hasn't been the source of any real problems. He also runs and plays with other dogs.

Wesha news
Wesha seems to return to her more active, normal self now that she is no longer in season. While we were in Holland, she had her first real, voluntary swim! We were at a lake and she saw some ducks in the water. The water was shallow for a while and she just kept walking until she was swimming. And it wasn't just an "accident", because she swam around, came out and did the exact same thing again (so that I could take some pictures!). I would have loved for her to do it a third time, so that I could make a video of it too, but Wesha decided twice was enough.

After a long time of walking on the leash and not going to training, Wesha isn't listening as well as she was before (or as well as I'd like her to). She seems to enjoy her freedom when she's off leash and she doesn't come when I call her. Or at least not immediately and sometimes even minutes later! Good thing we went back to training yesterday. In the beginning she was very excited and couldn't concentrate, but after a while she did fine again. Focused and performed really well.

A Beach Monster and a Flying Dog

I am so far behind on this blog, that I cannot even start with catching up. So I will just share with you what we did today. We are in the Netherlands at the moment, visiting my parents, the rest of my family and friends. Today was a lovely day and we went to the beach. It was the first time for Wesha and I am pretty sure it was also the first time for Ghandi.

They had a wonderful time running around and playing. Wesha is still smelling very good for dogs, but since the beach was just about empty, I let her run off leash anyway. And run she did!

I hope you will enjoy the photos.
