So we have survived the first night. I let Wesha out for a last pee around 22.30 and then I put her in the bench. That was not to her liking at all. I had my matrass in plain sight, so that she could see and hear me. But it was mainly me hearing her, LOL! She was pretty loud too. After about an hour she had her first nap, unfortunately only short and she started to cry and bark again. This repeated itself a couple of times. Until shortly after 02.00 she really fell asleep. It wasn't easy to ignore her and not take her out while she was so loud. But I knew that I had to do this, because she would never get used to sleeping in the bench otherwise.
When I woke up at 05.15 for the first time, she was sleeping on her back, totally relaxed. She woke up at 06.15 and as soon as she sat up, before she could start barking, I took her out of the bench into the garden, where she did a big pee.
I am very proud that she got through the night without having too pee.
When we got back inside, she was very restless and still pretty vocal. Unfortunately, I didn't recognise that she had to do something else than a pee... and there we had the first "No. 2" accident in the house. I am sorry for Wesha that I was too late. Her poo was pretty solid and dry, so it luckily wasn't a big mess.
I have started putting a little treat into the bench every now and then, so that Wesha goes in to check it out by herself. I really want her to get used to it.
So far she has been very good and hasn't chewed on any cables (we tried to work them away as good as possible, but if she would have a real interest, she could still chew some of them), slippers or other things. I had some manuals in a magazin holder that she really liked. So I have taken them away. But that is basically it.
I so hope that she will feel at home here soon. It is really tough to hear her whine and bark so much. She doesn't have a need to be cuddled either, so I feel we cannot comfort her.
In the garden, she feels more insecure than in the house. When there is some noise/sound that she doesn't know and gets scared of, she runs back into the house. I think that is good. It means she feels safe(r) in here. But she is also quickly getting used to those sounds and she isn't running into the house much anymore.
I took her outside when there was a cat in our garden, but she was very careful and stayed with me. The cat was careful too and went through the fence, so that it was on the outside. But they watched each other for a while.
